My menopause started for me at the age of 44
I am a female and my menopause started for me at the age of 44.
My periods were getting far and few between and I was having hot flashes at night and during the day, feeling tired because I could not sleep at night.
I did some home remedies but they did not seem to work, so I went to the doctor and she said she could give me something for the hot flashes but that I would probably have to take it for the rest of my life and so.
I opt out on that and just deal with it. Read the rest of this entry »
I did not have cancer but he prescribed a hormone
I started menstruating in June before I turned 11 in September. I think I developed endometriosis within a couple of months. My periods were a week long, very heavy, and very painful, especially the third day, when I would spend an hour or two on the toilet.
When I got up, the toilet would be full of glistening black-red feces. I know this sounds unpleasant. It was very unpleasant. I married at nineteen and became pregnant almost immediately.
To my astonishment, after the baby was born, my periods became painless. After about two and a half years the pain returned, and I at once decided it was time to become pregnant again.
But unfortunately, my husband wanted only two children. I wanted four, so we compromised on three. After that third was born, the doctor inserted an IUD to prevent further pregnancies. That was a nightmare.
I was an identification clerk at a police department, and my periods were so heavy I was constantly running to the restroom to change supplies. One day, I inserted three super-size tampons and put on two super-size pads.
As soon as I was out of the restroom, I was called to process a prisoner. This consisted of taking down information about his name, address, and so forth; fingerprinting him; and photographing him face on and profile.
By the time I got through, I had bled through everything including my skirt, and had to go home and change clothes. In a few months the IUD was removed.
After that, my periods were normal for me: three days of heavy bleeding and intense pain, and four days of light bleeding. But then I hit the age of 48. Read the rest of this entry »
My experience with menopause
I am a female from India and am 45 years old. Yes I have met menopause. The symptoms started about two years ago.
I started getting irregular periods, which were erratic – I used to get period once in every 15 days which will stay for 4-5 days. This continued for about 6-7 months.
The symptoms for the beginning of my period will be before 3 to 4 days of my periods I will not have bladder control.
Once the period is over I will be fine otherwise. During the first year I used to have regular normal flow for 3-4 days and the period will stop gradually.
After the initial six months I started having my period sometimes in 15 days or after two moths. The flow has started to be very heavy and I used to pass clots and became very weak and anemic. Read the rest of this entry »
Many of my family members have experienced menopause early in life
I’m a 46 year old female with no children and since I was 14 have had a regular period. For years I took birth control, but stopped in 1988 when I married my husband who had a vasectomy prior to our marriage.
I have no children and most of my life been overweight, until 2006 when I had weight loss surgery which resulted in 100lb weight loss.
Since then I’ve probably had 8 periods and in the last six months I’ve stated experiencing hot flashes in the daytime and night time sweats so bad I would have to get up and take a shower.
I had my last pap smear in October 2008, but didn’t mention this to my doctor. I currently don’t take any kind of hormone replacements nor do I want to.
I have notice a slight change in my emotions, not crying or sad, just changes I can’t put a name to, it doesn’t interfere with my daily activities, but I know it’s there and it feels odd. Read the rest of this entry »
I was very lucky with the menopause really
I was very lucky with the menopause really, although I was young when it first struck, being only 45, it was also very short lived.
I am a woman and now in my early 50′s and thankfully all symptoms have passed. It all started with erratic periods that got heavier, more painful, and very irregular.
Next came insomnia swiftly followed by nausea and hot flushes.
All in all not a good year as you can imagine.
I am of a generation that was brought up not to ‘ bother ‘ the doctor about such things , in fact I only found out that I had been peri-menopausal for about a year prior to the year of the Big M last year.
Almost 5 years after the event. It was just not the sort of thing that I was brought up to talk openly about. Read the rest of this entry »
I’ve met menopause and she certainly wasn’t invited in
I’ve met menopause and she certainly wasn’t invited in. Much to my dismay she barged right past me and plopped on the couch – wide butt and all.
I am female and I’m sure menopause is female too.
A bitchy, hairy, moody, overweight ,old female that is. She has brought periods that drain me of so much blood I should actually lose weight from the loss.
Is this a regular occurrence? Oh no, it’s a really neat game that only she knows. Is it here? Will it come on time?
Maybe I’m pregnant because it’s been so long between… Oh no, that’s right, you have to be young and having sex to get pregnant. Oh well, maybe tomorrow. Read the rest of this entry »
I started signs of menopause when I was just 39
My name is Barbara, and I am a 48 year old woman. I started signs of menopause when I was just 39, and little by little, over the years, things just stopped.
I have had one period in the span of one year, and that seemed to be due to incredible stress in my life at the time.
Things calmed down, no period since. It was not as hard as I had feared it would be, though.
Night sweats we hell, but, not constant. Mood swings, well they were no more severe than normal life.
I have had two miscarriages since my signs of menopause started. The doctor explained that my eggs were too old to give birth. Read the rest of this entry »
I started having the menopausal syndrome when I was 32 years old after my hysterectomy
I am a 38-year old female. I started having the menopausal syndrome when I was 32 years old after my hysterectomy.
Three months after the surgery, symptoms of hot flushes, insomnia and irritability started. Another thing was the easy fatigability. These symptoms were frequent during the first two years.
Sometimes, I felt ashamed of the hot flushes because even if I was in an air-conditioned room I was fanning myself due to excessive sweating while during the warm weather, I was shivering.
It was good people around me understood my condition so I don’t have to make excuses. My insomnia was another thing. Every two o’clock in the morning, I can’t help but wake up either because of too much perspiration or it’s just that I had to wake up.
I lose weight because of these. These symptoms had gradually diminished during the third year. Hot flushes became infrequent and the insomnia was manageable though there were times that I stayed awake almost the whole early morning from 2 to 5 in the morning.
Since I had undergone operation, I had a regular check up. In one of the check- ups , I was advised by my doctor to take hormone replacement therapy but I refused. I opted not to have the HRT, but modified my diet and lifestyle of which it had positive results. Read the rest of this entry »

My own menopause symptoms started at age 50
As a 63 year old female, my own menopause symptoms started at age 50. That may have been a little early, but I was a late bloomer, not starting my periods until I was about 16. I noticed that even with reduction in frequency and flow, the cramps and bloating actually got worse as well as the occasional emotional issue of facing a real change in my life.
That emotional issue is probably the worst with the realization that time is passing and none of us will live forever. As time went on, periods were skipped and finally stopped altogether at about 53.
Seeking advice from my physician early on, he prescribed hormone pills and exercise to ease the discomfort. In addition to the medication, however, I did manage to feel much better when I learned from friends and online searches that my symptoms were mild to nonexistent when compared to others.
